Uptrip glossary: terms explained

Last reviewed

This Uptrip glossary gives short explanations of the words you come across with Uptrip cards, on OpenSea and around NFTs; each entry links to the guide or overview page that covers it in more depth.

Aircraft card
An Uptrip card for the aircraft type that flew a flight. This site names it together with the airline, as in SWISS Airbus A321, because the same type at another airline is a separate card with its own page; see Uptrip aircraft cards.
Airline card
An Uptrip card for the airline that operated a flight. Where an airline has its own page on this site, that page lists the current OpenSea offers for its cards; compare them in the airline overview.
City card
An Uptrip card for the departure or arrival city of a flight. Cards of the same city can come from flights with different airlines, and its city page here gathers them with their offers; browse Uptrip city cards.
Collection
A set of card requirements in the Uptrip app: a number of cards, part of which may have to be originals. Meet them and you can redeem the collection's reward. Here, each collection page lists which of its cards are for sale on OpenSea; see the guide to Uptrip collections.
Contract address
The blockchain address of the smart contract that issues a set of tokens. Uptrip cards come from the contract 0xa59b69e1fad081af56c472c03d9b7f80af847c9c on Polygon, and a token from another contract is not an Uptrip card; read Uptrip cards as NFTs.
Edition
A version within a card series. A special can come in named editions, and on this site every special edition has its own page with its current offers; see special cards and their editions.
ETH / WETH
ETH, or ether, is the currency of the Ethereum blockchain. WETH, wrapped ether, is ether packed into a token, which OpenSea uses for offers. This site shows each price in the token of its listing, such as WETH, plus an approximate euro amount; see reading Uptrip card prices.
Floor price
The lowest price at which anything in an NFT collection, or in a part of it, is listed right now. For each card group this site shows the cheapest current offer, which is that group's floor; read Uptrip card prices explained.
Haul
The length of a flight. The map on this site uses the classes short haul and long haul: it marks airports in colours whose legend pairs a haul class with a rarity label; open the Uptrip card map.
In-app marketplace
Uptrip's own trading feature inside the app, separate from OpenSea and from this site. Uptrip's help counts a card obtained there as a non-original. How trading in the app works is Uptrip's rule, so check the Uptrip app; see original and non-original cards.
Last sale
The price at which a card of the group last changed hands on OpenSea, shown with its date. It tells you what a buyer actually paid, while offers show what sellers ask today; compare both with our price guide.
Listing
A card its owner offers on OpenSea at a fixed price, often with an expiry date. Once somebody buys the card, the listing is gone. This site shows listings as offers, sorted from the cheapest up; see buying a listed card.
Miles & More
The frequent flyer programme of the Lufthansa Group airlines. Uptrip cards are collected in the Uptrip app, and this site has no ties to Miles & More; how collecting works is explained in our guide to collecting cards.
Mint
Creating a token on a blockchain. For an Uptrip card, minting is what turns it from an app card into an NFT, and it requires a crypto wallet linked to your Uptrip account. Read how Uptrip cards become NFTs.
Network fee (gas)
A fee paid to the validators of a blockchain for processing a transaction, for example when you send a card to another wallet or buy it on OpenSea. It is added to the price of the card; see what buying on OpenSea costs.
NFT (non-fungible token)
A token on a blockchain that stands for a specific item and has a single owner at a time. Unlike coins, NFTs cannot be swapped for each other as equals. An Uptrip card becomes an NFT on Polygon once its owner mints it; see what an Uptrip NFT is.
Non-original card
Any Uptrip card you did not earn on your own flight. A friend may have sent it to your wallet, or you bought it on OpenSea. It can fill a place in a collection, just not a place reserved for originals; read how originals and non-originals differ.
Offer
The word means different things in different places. On this site an offer is a listing: a card a seller asks a set price for on OpenSea. On OpenSea itself, an offer is a bid that a buyer proposes to the owner of an item; how buying works is in our OpenSea buying guide.
OpenSea
A marketplace for NFTs where Uptrip cards are traded in the collection uptrip-cards. When you follow a link from this site, you pay there with your own wallet. This site has no ties to OpenSea; the steps are in the step-by-step buying guide.
Original card
A card that reached you through the Uptrip app because you flew the flight yourself. Some collections ask for a minimum count of originals, and a card bought on OpenSea never helps with that minimum; see originals compared with other cards.
Polygon
A blockchain network on which applications built for Ethereum can also run. Uptrip cards are minted as tokens on Polygon, under the contract that OpenSea shows as the collection uptrip-cards; see Uptrip cards as NFTs.
Rarity
A label such as common that comes with each card's data; the card tiles here display it unchanged. The label belongs to the card and says nothing about its price, which you read from its offers and sales instead; see rarity and special cards.
Reward
What a completed collection can be redeemed for in the Uptrip app. Uptrip decides which rewards exist and on what terms, so check the Uptrip app. Cards spent on a reward are burnt. Collection pages here name the reward when it is known; read our guide to collections.
Seller
The owner whose wallet listed a card on OpenSea. The offer tables here give each card and seller a row of their own, so several sellers of the same card sit side by side; the site does not rate them. See buying from a seller on OpenSea.
Special card
A card from a themed series in the Uptrip app instead of a city, airline or aircraft card. The app now and then offers a special after a flight. A special can come in several editions; browse them in our guide to special cards.
Token ID
The identifier that tells the tokens of a contract apart. Together with the contract address it points to exactly a single NFT, such as a particular Uptrip card; see Uptrip cards as NFTs.
Uptrip
A mobile app that turns flights into trading cards: you scan the boarding pass of a flight with a partner airline and pick cards made for that trip. Cards fill collections, and a full collection unlocks a reward. This site is independent of Uptrip; see our guide to getting cards.
Uptrip card
A digital trading card from the Uptrip app that stands for a city, an airline, an aircraft or a special. Once its owner mints it, the card is an NFT that can be sold on OpenSea; the details are in our Uptrip NFT guide.
Wallet
Software that keeps the private keys of your blockchain address and signs transactions for you. You need a wallet to mint Uptrip cards, to receive cards from others and to buy them on OpenSea; read how to buy with a wallet on OpenSea.
