What are Uptrip NFTs?
Last reviewed
What are Uptrip NFTs? They are Uptrip cards that their owners have minted on the Polygon blockchain, so each card also exists as a token with a single owner. The card stays visible in the Uptrip app, but it is not born as an NFT: that happens when someone mints it. Below you find what changes with that step, and what OpenSea and this site can tell you about such a card.
From app card to NFT
A card you collect in the Uptrip app is at the start simply an entry in your account. To put it on the blockchain, you link a crypto wallet with the app and mint the cards you pick; the wallet displays the network fee and waits for your confirmation. Afterwards a minted card wears the Polygon logo in the app. Flip it over and you find its token ID, which leads to the token's entry on Polygon.
Uptrip supports MetaMask, Rainbow and Trust Wallet. Network fees are paid in Polygon's native token, and Uptrip explains that it picked this blockchain because minting there costs little compared with other networks.
Polygon, the contract and ERC-721
Polygon is a blockchain that is compatible with Ethereum and is among the networks OpenSea supports. Every minted Uptrip card lives under the same smart contract, 0xa59b69e1fad081af56c472c03d9b7f80af847c9c. Check this address whenever you want to be sure that a token really is an Uptrip card.
The contract uses ERC-721, a token standard in which every token is a unique item and exists as a single copy. That matches what the cards are meant to be: Uptrip's help links their uniqueness to the flight details stored on each card. A blockchain logs every transaction of a token, so who held a card when is traceable.
Uptrip NFTs on OpenSea
On OpenSea, a marketplace for NFTs, the minted cards make up the collection uptrip-cards
On any item, the contract tells you whether it is an Uptrip card at all, so compare it with the address above before you buy. A minted card also carries its token ID on the back in the Uptrip app. Together, contract and token ID point to a single token on Polygon.
What this site shows about them
Uptrip Card Market takes the collection's OpenSea offers and sales and sorts them by card group: cities, airlines, aircraft and specials. Each group page sets the current offers next to each other and lists the recent sales. Card tiles carry the rarity label that comes with the card data. The site neither rates cards nor sells any, and it has no ties to Uptrip, Miles & More or OpenSea.
Ready to buy? Our guide to buying on OpenSea takes you from the offer on this site to the checkout, and how to get Uptrip cards covers the flying route. Short definitions of terms like NFT are in the Uptrip glossary.
When cards are burnt
Redeeming and selling exclude each other. If you hand cards in for a collection's reward, Uptrip burns those cards; afterwards they no longer exist, and there is nothing left to list on OpenSea.
So before you redeem, check in the Uptrip app which cards the collection would use up. If a card is in demand, glance at the recent sales on its card page here as well: they show what buyers have paid for it.
