How Uptrip collections work
Last reviewed
This guide shows how Uptrip collections work: you gather matching cards with the Uptrip app, place them in a collection and claim its reward once it is complete. The sections below cover what a collection asks for, what redeeming does to your cards, a tip for reaching a reward sooner and how this site helps you plan the cards you still lack.
What a collection is
Inside the Uptrip app, a collection is a row of places, and each place waits for a fitting card: a particular city, airline, aircraft or special, and in some cases any card at all. You assign cards from your account to those places. Once every place is taken and the conditions are met, the reward can be claimed. In our data the rewards range from vouchers to miles and a status level.
No collection runs forever. Uptrip closes one when all its rewards have been handed out or when its end date arrives. Your cards survive that: cards that sat in a closed collection can go into other collections afterwards.
On this site, the collections overview lists every collection with its status, available, coming soon or expired, and notes whether the current offers would be enough to complete it.
Cards and originals a collection needs
Each collection fixes a total of cards and what share of that total has to be originals, meaning cards from flights you took part in yourself. Whatever you buy on OpenSea arrives as one of the non-originals and goes into the remaining places, not the original ones. If the total is reached while originals are still missing, the collection stays locked.
The finer points, including the in-app Joker Card, are explained in the originals guide.
What happens when you redeem
Redeeming turns a complete collection into its reward, and you pay with the cards: as Uptrip's help pages
Certain rewards are reserved for Miles & More members. Some collections can be taken on again after you redeem them. Uptrip calls this reactivation, and the app shows where it applies.
This site has no view of your Uptrip account. It therefore cannot tell you which of your cards a redemption would use up.
Tip: reach a reward collection faster
A reward comes within reach sooner when part of a collection can be bought. Take Frequent Traveller, whose reward is listed as FTL status. When we last reviewed this guide, it asked for fifty cards of any kind, forty of them originals. That leaves ten places that any card can fill, including the cheapest card on offer. On its page here you see the current requirements and the price of filling the open places at today's offers.
The originals still have to come from your own flights, and a bought card never takes their place. Uptrip names one exception, the Joker Card from the app, which can fill a single original place per collection.
Also worth a look is All Aboard. It lists five hundred miles as its reward and asks for the Welcome Card and the Miles And More Card, with no originals required. According to our data, neither card is offered on OpenSea, so the app is where you find out how to receive them.
Rewards and quotas are Uptrip's decision. A collection can change its requirements, run out of rewards or close at any time. Open it in the Uptrip app and check before you buy even a single card.
Planning your purchases on this site
- Open the collection's page and tick the cards you already own in the planner. Enter your originals as well; these notes stay in your browser.
- Read which cards are still missing and roughly what they cost at current offers. Our price guide explains how to judge those offers.
- Buy each card on OpenSea, then place it in the collection in the app. An offer may disappear before you reach it.
- Have one more look at the collection in the app before you redeem.
