Original vs. non-original Uptrip cards
Last reviewed
Uptrip original cards are the ones that come from your own travel: you board a flight, let the app read your boarding pass and choose cards for that trip. Every other card in your account is a non-original. That difference decides whether a purchase from OpenSea can help you with a collection, so it pays to understand it before you spend anything.
How a card becomes an original
In Uptrip's sense, an original means a card that reached your account through a flight you were on yourself. The app marks such cards with a symbol of their own. Inside each collection it also keeps count of how many originals you have placed there.
There is an exception, and Uptrip sells it itself: the Joker Card. You buy it inside the app. Placed in a collection, it fills one missing place and is treated there like an original. A collection takes a single Joker Card, nobody can hold more than one at a time, and it can be neither minted nor traded. That is why it never appears on OpenSea or on this site.
This site cannot tell which of your cards are originals: it has no access to your Uptrip account and no say over how a card is classed.
Where non-originals come from
Any card you did not collect on your own trips is a non-original. Uptrip's help article on originals
Uptrip Card Market shows offers from OpenSea and nothing else. Whatever you buy through a link on this site therefore arrives as a non-original card. It makes no difference whether the seller once got that card on a flight.
Why originals matter for collections
Each collection names how many cards it needs in total and may add how many of them must be originals. Originals therefore count toward the total as well. A collection that holds enough cards but too few originals cannot be redeemed yet.
The gap between the total and the minimum of originals is the room for non-originals. Bought cards fill exactly those places, never the ones reserved for originals. Some collections accept nothing but originals, and there a purchase does not help at all. Others need no originals, so any matching card will do.
Every collection page on this site shows both requirements. In its planner you enter how many originals you already have, and it then lists what is left to buy and which originals you still have to earn in the app. How collections work as a whole, from their status to redeeming, is the topic of the collections guide.
Before you buy a card
- Open the Uptrip app, go to the collection and read both counters: originals placed against originals needed, and cards placed against cards needed.
- Count the free places that accept non-originals. Those are the places a bought card can take.
- Make sure the card you want really fits a place in that collection, then compare its offers on this site.
- Pay on OpenSea, where the purchase happens; our OpenSea buying guide walks you through it. An offer may be gone by the time you get there.
